The United Kingdom welcomes Spain's strong commitment to promoting and protecting human rights.
We welcome the Government's positive steps to address women's rights and to tackle gender-based violence.
We understand the increased strain on Spain's asylum system, but are concerned about resource provision and coordination for genuine asylum seekers.
We recommend that Spain:
-
Develop and implement a National Action Plan adequately addressing all forms of Human Trafficking, as outlined in the 2018 report on The Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.
-
Adopt an open, merit-based process when selecting national candidates for UN Treaty Body elections;
-
Ensure asylum claims are processed as quickly as possible, and that administrations work together, to ensure asylum seekers/refugees have sufficient access to social protection and services.
