Western Australians have now installed more than 50,000 batteries through the Albanese Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program, adding more than 1.1 GWh of capacity, helping households store more cheap solar energy and use it when they need it most.
This enthusiasm for home batteries reflects WA's continuing embrace of rooftop solar, with more than 110 MW installed in the second quarter of 2026.
From April to June this year, Western Australians added enough solar capacity to power 25,000 homes - a new state record.
The strongest uptake of home batteries is occurring in Perth's fast-growing outer suburban communities, showing that batteries are becoming a mainstream household investment across WA's growth corridors.
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program complements WA's Residential Battery Scheme, with federal and state support helping households store and use more of the free energy generated by rooftop solar systems.
The government is also working with states and territories to ensure all Australians can benefit from batteries - including those without home solar or storage - by supporting large-scale and community batteries that boost reliability and provide cheaper, cleaner power.
In WA, five community batteries installed under the Community Batteries for Household Solar program are already providing 2.8 MWh of storage capacity, with a further 18 batteries (14.8 MWh) coming online over the next 12 months.
Western Australians will also benefit from 1.9 GW of cheaper, cleaner renewable generation and 482 MW of battery storage as part of 10 new projects set to be built across regional WA under the Australian Government's Capacity Investment Scheme.
Batteries are increasingly helping meet peak demand in the Wholesale Electricity Market, reducing reliance on higher-cost generation and helping moderate wholesale electricity prices.
