The sports pavilion at Jetty Flat Reserve will receive a $980,000 upgrade that includes female-friendly changerooms.
Council was successful in its application to the Victorian Government's Local Sports Infrastructure Fund seeking $500,000 for the project.
"We wish to thank and acknowledge the Victorian Government for investing $500,000 towards the Jett Flat project," Warrnambool Mayor Cr Vicki Jellie said.
"Council has committed $395,000 towards the project, we have a further $30,000 from Cricket Victoria and $55,000 from the Warrnambool BMX Club and Russell Creek Cricket Club.
"Council believes that creating facilities which encourage female participation is a high priority.
"Rates of participation in sport and recreation in Warrnambool are below the state average for women and girls and we are committed to supporting greater opportunities through well-designed, multi-use, shared and integrated facilities.
"The upgrade will create two new change areas and amenities that are not gender specific and which will provide clear separation between club amenities and the general public.
"From the pavilion, there will be a clear line of sight to the BMX track to the south and the cricket oval to the north.
"Designated umpires amenities include a separate shower, toilet and changing space while the shared community and social spaces will be able to transform from one space to two.
"The south-facing canteen servery will have a clear view of the BMX track, so that volunteering and watching children participate do not need to be mutually exclusive."
Jetty Flat Reserve was among 73 projects to score a share in $22 million from the Victorian Government's 2021 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney said the Jetty Flat project would provide the perfect base for the Russells Creek Cricket Club and Warrnambool BMX Club to build on their memberships, training, competitions and development programs.
"Congratulations to the Russell Creeks Cricket Club, Warrnambool BMX Club and all the other sporting clubs that call Jetty Flat Reserve home. This boost will go a long way to support the growing number of people keen to get involved in local sport and recreation," Ms Tierney said.
