ACT Govt Seeks Ideas to Revitalize City Centre, Braddon

Expressions of interest are now open for the City Renewal Authority's 2024-2025 Placemaking Grants program.

Individuals, community groups, and organisations are invited to pitch their placemaking ideas and apply for multiple grants of up to $50,000 to help bring them to life.

Applicants can submit projects and concepts across a range of categories including events, arts, marketing, vacant space activations and installations.

Jennifer Ramsay, Acting Deputy CEO at the City Renewal Authority welcomed exciting placemaking ideas that would generate interest, increase visitation, and improve the overall appeal of the City Centre and Braddon.

"We're looking for diverse, creative, innovative, and inclusive ideas that bring people to the city, and build their relationship with the area," Ms Ramsay said.

"An importing part of creating great places is giving people more reasons to spend time in them. The placemaking grants are just one of the ways the Authority is making the City Centre and Braddon more attractive for residents, workers, and visitors.

"These grants have made some fantastic events and activations possible. Climate-wise garden beds installed along Lonsdale Street have provided habitats for native insects, the Loaded Laneway festival injected new life in the laneway of the historic Sydney Building. Artworks such as 'Big Swoop' in Garema Place and the new interactive mural by EggPicnic in Haig Park contribute to the character of our city's public spaces."

An information session and workshop for the program will be held on Thursday, 15 February 2024 to provide applicants with information about grants, assist with applications, and answer related questions.

Expressions of interest close on Tuesday, 5 March 2024. Shortlisted ideas will be notified in April 2024 and invited to make a full application. Successful projects must be undertaken between July 2024 and June 2025.
