The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, alongside Prime Minister Mark Carney, today concluded her participation in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), held in St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda.
With the CHOGM's theme of Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth, Minister Anand joined Commonwealth leaders to discuss shared priorities, deepen bilateral engagements and strengthen cooperation on key global challenges.
During the meeting, Minister Anand announced more than $15 million in funding for multiple initiatives to advance sustainable development, economic prosperity, climate resilience and inclusive governance and to enhance disaster response readiness across Commonwealth member countries and other partner countries. These initiatives will help strengthen access to climate financing, support women's economic empowerment, enable rapid humanitarian relief, restore climate-affected ecosystems and promote transparency and accountability in public services.
Minister Anand also held bilateral meetings with counterparts from several Commonwealth countries. The discussions provided an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relationships, advance shared priorities and explore areas for cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
Minister Anand's participation in the CHOGM reaffirmed Canada's commitment to strengthening relationships across the Commonwealth, expanding trade and economic opportunities, and working with international partners to address shared global challenges.
