Georges River Council is excited to announce the twelve artists who will participate in the 2027-2028 Artist in Residence Program.

Council received applications from artists across Australia, and internationally. The selected artists represent a diverse range of artistic practices, including performance, murals, video, painting, installation, photography, sound and animation.

With the highest number of submissions received since the program started in 2018, this year's assessment panel were overwhelmed by the excellent quality of applications.

The following artists have been selected for the 2027-2028 intake:

  • Aaron Batic (SA).

  • Caroline Clerc (USA).

  • Akira Kamada (NSW).

  • Suzanne Knight (ACT).

  • Orlando Luminere (ACT).

  • Ha Trang Ly (NSW).

  • Rose Rigley (QLD).

  • Malvika Satelkar (IND).

  • Hugh Van Schaick (NSW).

  • Miho Watanabe (NSW).

  • Nicholas Wishart (NSW).

  • Mei Zhao (NSW).

Artists will have the opportunity to develop their skills and interact with the local community through public programs as well as contribute to Georges River Council's cultural offerings.

One of the selected artists, Mei Zhao, was delighted with the opportunity to be a part of the 2027-2028 Residency program and to further explore Chinese market gardens through her art.

"This Residency brings me back to where my journey in Australia began. The Georges River area was my first home, and it was here that I first explored Chinese market garden histories. Returning through this residency allows me to reconnect with this special landscape and discover new possibilities in my practice."

Georges River Council's Mayor Elise Borg said, "Supporting artists helps strengthen our local creativity."

"This program gives artists the time to develop their practice, while creating the opportunity for residents to engage with arts and culture".

"Providing a dedicated studio space gives artists the freedom to focus on their craft and bring new creative projects to life".
