Bob Montgomery's Fifty Fine Exhibition of Photographs is Now Open

Over 40 years well known Dubbo photographer Bob Montgomery took hundreds of photos both in his studio and around the country.

Now, some of his works are on display at the Western Plains Cultural Centre (WPCC) in the latest exhibition, Fifty Fine Photographs: Bob Montgomery.

The exhibition presents a selection of fifty of Bob Montgomery's works from over 40 years.

Bob Montgomery is the former proprietor of Montgomery's Photographic Studio, which operated in Dubbo for several years.

In contrast to photographs taken in the studio, the WPCC exhibition showcases photos Montgomery captured of the Australian landscape.

Inspired by American landscape photographer Ansel Adams, Mr Montgomery produced a collection of over one hundred black and white photographs, taken during family holidays around the country.

"This exhibition is a fantastic insight into one man's desire to take better photographs," WPCC Curator Ken Buchanan said.

"After reading Ansel Adams' ground-breaking book 'The Negative', Bob set out to apply his newfound knowledge to each photograph he took."

"The results are a series of technically brilliant, as well as lovingly composed images," Mr Buchanan said.

"The skills used in creating this body of work are a lost art and this exhibition reminds us of the discipline needed to create black and white photography before digital photography superseded it," he said.

Bob Montgomery will discuss the exhibition and provide an insight into his photography on Saturday 22 April at 2pm.

The Western Plains Cultural Centre is open daily from 10am – 4pm and is open until 6pm on Fridays. Admission to Western Plains Cultural Centre is free.
