The Crisafulli Government is delivering for Queensland with major child protection reforms to keep kids safer, faster justice with more prosecutors, and continuing to clear the DNA backlog, in the 2026-27 Budget.

At more than $2 billion, the Justice Budget is strengthening the foundations for a fresh start with major child protection reform to implement recommendations from In Plain Sight, continuing rebuilding Queensland's forensic science system and delivering faster justice.

The 2026-27 Budget establishes a new Queensland Protection Commission to bring key safeguarding functions including Child Safe Standards oversight and the Reportable Conduct Scheme, together with Queensland Worker Screening Services, with the aim of strengthening coordination, improving risk identification, and enhancing child protection outcomes across Queensland.

The Budget also supports work to commence on a first-of-its-kind Intelligence Hub to centralise intelligence across government to proactively identify risks to children.

By improving intelligence-sharing and risk identification across agencies, the Hub will strengthen the State's ability to detect threats earlier and better protect children.

The Budget will also continue to support clearing the DNA backlog and recommence forensic testing at Forensic Science Queensland, building on recent progress to reduce delays and deliver faster access to justice for victims.

The former Labor Government's DNA Debacle is one of the greatest failures of a justice system anywhere in the world, and left tens of thousands of victims under a forensic cloud, the Crisafulli Government has been working to clear the DNA backlog it inherited and restore forensic testing.

Criminal prosecution services will also be boosted across the State with 25 additional Crown Prosecutors and solicitors in regional Queensland.

Two extra Deputy Directors of Public Prosecutions will be appointed and a digital case management system extended to deliver on the Crisafulli Government's promise for faster justice, with victims put first.

Treasurer David Janetzki said the 2026-27 Budget was about delivering for Queensland by restoring safety where you live.

"We are delivering on our promises, with relief you can rely on through responsible decisions for now and the future, and no new or increased taxes," Treasurer Janetzki said.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity Deb Frecklington said the 2026-27 Budget was delivering to make Queensland safer.

"We are delivering to keep kids safer, wherever they are, with a stronger child protection system, just as we promised," the Attorney-General said.

"By strengthening our screening and intelligence capability and switching the focus to proactive protection, we will boost safety for all children.

"The new Queensland Protection Commission and its new Intelligence Hub respond directly to the findings of the In Plain Sight review and will deliver nation-leading capabilities to create a stronger, more connected system to keep Queensland children safe.

"We are continuing to fix Labor's DNA Debacle, rebuilding confidence in Queensland's forensic science system, and continuing to clear the DNA backlog.

"It's important victims get answers sooner and Queenslanders can have confidence in the administration of justice."
