- $1.5 million in grants over three years to help ensure all Western Australians can take part in sport and recreation
- Between $20,000 and $150,000 for projects that target low participation groups
- Community service providers and sport and recreation providers encouraged to apply
Grants of up to $150,000 are now available for projects that aim to increase participation and break down the barriers to partake in sport.
The Sport and Recreation Inclusive Participation Grants Program is set to distribute $1.5 million dollars over three years. The aim is to create inclusive, accessible, safe, and welcoming environments and opportunities for people with disability, Aboriginal people, those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, adolescent girls, people from the LGBTQIA+ community, seniors, and disengaged youth.
This may include, but is not limited to, collaborative projects that:
- help people with disability take part in activities previously not accessible or offered to them;
- are 'place-based' where applicants work with local and specialist partners to connect and coordinate opportunities for people from CALD backgrounds;
- make sport or active recreation activities fun and flexible for disengaged youth; and
- build capacity of sport and recreation organisations to be more inclusive of all.
Local sport and active recreation providers, State sporting associations, community service providers and local governments are encouraged to apply for funding under the Sport and Recreation Inclusive Participation Grants Program, which is administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:
"So many local governments, clubs and community organisations are doing really great things within this space to make sport and active recreation more inclusive to all.
"The McGowan Government wants to hear about and support these projects which is why we're offering funding of between $20,000 and $150,000 - a total of $1.5 million over three years.
"Let's make sure that every West Aussie is welcome and included in sport and recreation regardless of age, gender, race or ability."
