Builders Launch Election Ad Blitz In Townsville – Don't Put Economic At Risk The Message

Master Builders has launched an election advertising blitz in Townville urging voters to back the major party with the best plan for economic recovery that will back builders and tradies at the 21 May poll.

"The party that wins this election is going to be responsible for completing the economic recovery from the pandemic. That's the major issue for builders and tradies and for the broader community when they vote on 21 May," Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said.

"Building and construction accounts for nearly seven percent of total employment in the electorate of Herbert, that's nearly 4000 jobs at stake if the wrong policies are implemented by the next Federal Government," she said.

"More than 1,500 small builder and tradie business are playing a major role in the local economy, and they don't want policies that could stop them being their own boss and being treated as an employee whether they like it or not under Labor's secure work policies," Denita Wawn said.

"Our polling of builders and tradies in Townsville tells us that they don't want the major parties getting in the way of economic recovery with policies that will put it at risk," she said.

"There is billions of dollars in defence and infrastructure investment that's already under way in Herbert and more is being promised by both the major parties. Labor's policy to abolish the construction industry watchdog will put these projects at increased risk of disruption and delay and cost increases due to unlawful union industrial action," Denita Wawn said.

"Townsville needs more new homes built to make sure that home ownership can be a reality for this community. That's why Master Builders is calling on the next Federal Government to combine measures to help people to overcome the deposit gap with payments to state governments to ensure that more affordable shove ready land is available to build more new homes," Denita Wawn said.
