It is the second year that the school has taken part in the team hiking challenge fundraiser, which will see participants walk along the Sunshine Coast coastline.

Carinity Education Southside Principal, Leann Faint, says mental health is an issue of concern for members of the school community, and something that is discussed openly at the school.

"It is an issue that is very close to our hearts" Leann said.

"Many of our young people are affected by mental illness - either themselves or family members or friends."

The team of staff and students - around 20 people in total - are preparing for the trek by participating in weekly training sessions under the guidance of Carinity Education Southside's HPE teacher, Antonio McCray.

Team Southside is calling on the Carinity community to support the team's fundraising efforts.

"Last year Southside raised around $3,000 for Beyond Blue - and we are aiming to double that amount this year," Leann said.
