CHE Ranking 2022 honors research strengths in electrical engineering and information technology and psychology

The current ranking of the Center for Higher Education Development, CHE ranking for short, certifies that the departments of Education, German Studies, Psychology, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Freiburg have a strong position in Germany. In the categories "study organization" and "support services at the beginning of studies", the educational sciences, German studies and psychology belong to the top group nationwide. As in their previous CHE survey in 2019, Freiburg's German Studies and Psychology also occupy top positions in the proportion of graduates who took no more than two semesters longer than the standard period of study to complete their degree. Students of Freiburg's educational sciences also have above-average intensive contacts with professional practice, as the ranking shows.

According to the CHE ranking, electrical engineering and information technology as well as psychology excel above all in the area of scientific visibility and the promotion of scientists. The university is listed in the top group in the categories "number of publications per scientist" and "number of doctorates per professor." Research in the field of electrical engineering and information technology at the University of Freiburg is also among the leading group of German universities in terms of citations per publication and third-party funding per scientist.

About the ranking

For the CHE ranking, 120,000 students from more than 300 universities and colleges are surveyed. The subjects taken into account are re-evaluated every three years. In addition to a thematically broad student survey, the ranking also takes into account countable factors such as "research funds per scientist" or "graduates per year in a reasonable period of time". In the process, rank groups are given rather than rankings.
