The Minns Labor Government has finalised the Cherrybrook Precinct rezoning, enabling the delivery of up to 10,000 new homes and more than 200 new retail jobs in northwest Sydney.
This rezoning is another step in the Government's plan to address Sydney's housing supply challenge, creating opportunities to build thousands of new homes close to public transport, jobs and essential services, while delivering vibrant communities where people can live, work and thrive.
The Cherrybrook Precinct rezoning will unlock thousands of new homes strategically located next to Cherrybrook Metro Station and centred around a new town centre featuring a library, community facilities, cafes and shops.
Key features include:
- up to 10,000 new homes, including at least 560 affordable homes,
- 3000 square metre community facility and library,
- approximately five hectares of public open space, including five new parks,
- preservation of the Blue Gum High Forest,
- more than 200 new retail jobs, and
- building heights from four to 27 storeys with the tallest buildings located centrally around the metro station and new town centre.
Following community feedback, several key changes were made, including a provision for a new public primary school beyond 2041, and improving roads, cycling and walking paths throughout the precinct.
The Minns Labor Government's planning reforms have grown the pipeline of homes for NSW, with the highest number of homes under construction in the country; more than 80,000 homes, and more in the pipeline.
This is part of the Government's plan to build a better NSW with more homes, jobs, parks and services, so young people, families and key local workers have somewhere to live and work in the communities they choose.
