Charting a path to net zero is the focus of Engineers Australia's second Climate Smart Engineering conference (CSE) taking place on November 22 and 23.
Next week's hybrid conference will bring together people from a diverse range of engineering disciplines, industry sectors, and environmental and social governance backgrounds – all with a commonality of addressing climate change in its many manifestations.
Engineers Australia CEO Romilly Madew AO said this year's CSE builds on the success of 2021's inaugural event which heard keynote speeches from globally influential climate-leaders such as Al Gore and Paul Polman.
"CSE 2022 will shine a light on projects that have industry leading sustainability credentials and can highlight the ways in which the engineering profession can better manage the complex challenges of achieving net zero emissions," she said.
Keynote speakers include Inventor, Author, Founder and CEO of Otherlab Dr Saul Griffith, and Kevin Hennessy Lead Author of the Australasia Chapter, IPCC's sixth assessment report on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability.
Engineers Australia President and Chair Nick Fleming said the Climate Smart Engineering conference is about engineering excellence, ideas and action.
"The engineering profession is central to designing and implementing climate solutions. Wherever emissions are being released – from deforestation to industrial methane producing facilities – these engineering solutions can identify who is responsible and the scale of what needs to be done to make good," he said.
"The role of CSE is to provide the time and space for this important work to be communicated and shared."
