The State Government is funding the project delivery via the Social and Affordable Housing Investment Fund, with additional support through the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage's Infrastructure Delivery Fund. The project will receive operational funding assistance through the Housing Australia Future Fund Facility (HAFF) Round Two.
McCorkell Constructions WA have been engaged to build the three-storey complex that will cater for a range of household types and vulnerable people.
The development will comprise five one-bedroom, one-bathroom dwellings, two two-bedroom, one-bathroom dwellings and 12 two-bedroom, two-bathroom dwellings.
Accessibility and ageing in place are key features of the project, with two ground-floor apartments to be built to Platinum Level Liveable Housing Australia standards, representing the highest level of accessibility and adaptability.
The remaining 17 apartments will be built to Silver Level Liveable Housing Australia standards, ensuring accessibility features are incorporated throughout the development.
The site of the development is well located close to public transport, employment opportunities, schools and retail services and other essential amenities.
Construction of the development is due for completion in mid-2028.
As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:
"The Cook Labor Government is working closely with the Albanese Labor Government to deliver on our ambitious agenda to increase the supply of housing for vulnerable Western Australians.
"This $11.5 million development will mean another 19 new homes in a well-located area.
"Importantly, these homes will be constructed to a high standard so that residents with a range of accessibility needs can be accommodated.
"Our record $10.8 billion investment in housing measures has delivered over 4,200 new social and affordable homes for Western Australia, and projects like this one bring us closer to meeting our target of 9,800 new social and affordable homes by 2030."
As stated by Federal Member for Cowan Anne Aly:
"The new homes in Stirling will make a real difference for people who need secure, accessible housing, close to transport, shops and essential services.
"By working with the Cook Labor Government, we're delivering more homes for Western Australians and supporting local construction jobs and businesses."
