Cost of living still outpacing wages under Liberals

Tasmanian Labor
  • CPI rising faster than wages
  • Workers always suffer under Liberals
  • Consumer Price Index data released today shows Tasmanian wages aren't keeping up with the cost of living.

Hobart CPI has increased 2.7% for the year, while the most recent wage growth figure was 2.4%.

Shadow Treasurer David O'Byrne said it was clear that relatively good economic conditions weren't being shared with working Tasmanians.

"Too many people are getting left behind in Peter Gutwein's Tasmania," Mr O'Byrne said.

"When the cost of living continually grows faster than people's wages, it means people find it harder to put food on the table and a roof over their family's heads.

"Combine that with the fact that rental affordability is the worst in the nation, and the number of people waiting for public housing continues to grow, and it is clear that Peter Gutwein's golden age is a myth.

"Tasmanian workers are still among the worst paid in the country, and today's data shows things are only getting tougher under the Liberals."

David O'Byrne MP – Shadow Treasurer
