Roads, pools, stadiums, playgrounds and more across Corangamite Shire stand to benefit from almost $4 M in Federal Government funding.

At its July meeting, Council earmarked 20 proposed projects totalling $2,285,555 for the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCIP) Phase 4.

The total maximum grant under the program is $3,603,914, made up of $2,285,555 for priority local road and community infrastructure projects.

A second amount of $1,318,359 for road projects will be considered for 2024-2025 because Council's resources for 2023-2024 are at full capacity.

The Government has committed $750 M to the program including $250 M to improve rural, regional and outer urban roads.

To be eligible, community infrastructure projects must be primarily for the direct use and benefit of the local community.

Mayor Ruth Gstrein said Council would write to Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King MP expressing Council's appreciation for the funding stream.

"This program has allowed Council to carry out a lot of projects that would not have been possible otherwise.

"Previous rounds of this program have made all the difference in delivering elements of the Twelve Apostles Trail, redevelopment of Cobden Kindergarten and rehabilitation of Williams Road in Simpson and improved drainage in Camperdown.

"This fourth phase will allow us to complete more projects that deliver real, long-term benefits for our communities."

Cr Gstrein said Council would submit a works schedule for the nominated projects to the Commonwealth for approval.

"Approval of the schedule is a condition for release of the first instalment of grant money and for construction to commence," Cr Gstrein said.

"Council has included a number of projects in the 2023-2024 Budget so work can start as soon as possible, subject to securing the Federal funding."
