The Carisbrook Railway Station, rich in historical and cultural significance, is set to take on new life. A Notice of Motion presented to Council outlines plans for its restoration and transformation into a vibrant community hub. This vision seeks not only to honour the legacy of regional railways, but also to provide a lasting asset for future generations.
The Castlemaine Maryborough Rail Trail Inc. strongly supports the redevelopment. A revitalized station would enhance the rail trail experience by offering amenities, information, and a welcoming rest stop for trail users. This aligns with the organisation's broader goals of fostering sustainable tourism and encouraging active transport throughout the region.
With thoughtful restoration, the station could become a centre for community events, local history, and visitor engagement—contributing to both economic development and social cohesion.
However, the project hinges on Council securing a lease with VicTrack. Once this crucial step is completed, planning and development could begin, bringing the dream of Carisbrook Station's revival closer to reality.
