Dancer Balances Digital Studies: Embraces Flexibility

Technical University of Denmark

Ida Metzsch Juel has two homes. One in Switzerland and one in Denmark. Additionally, she works as a professional dancer in both countries and is also studying to become a mechanical engineer at DTU. When asked what drives her versatile and busy life, the answer is clear: curiosity.

"I finished my dance studies back in 2022, and at first it was great to make a living from it professionally, but then the urge to learn something new started growing in me, and because I've always loved mathematics, I immediately became curious when I found out that DTU offered a digital mechanical engineering programme," she explains.

The skills Ida Metzsch Juel acquires during the programme are identical to those she would have acquired by studying Mechanical Engineering at DTU's physical campus. In three and a half years, she will be ready for a career in everything from sustainable designer furniture to robot technology.

The teaching on the digital mechanical engineering programme is also scheduled to take place at the same time as a physical BEng programme, but where you study is up to you.

"My studies are practically tailor-made for me, because I would never have been able to participate in a programme that required physical attendance every day. The fact that I can study in both Switzerland and Denmark means that I haven't had to put my career on hold while pursuing my studies. And that's a huge privilege that I'm very grateful for," says Ida Metzsch Juel.
