Daniel Maspoch, lecturer of the Catalan Institute for Advanced Research and Studies (ICREA), affiliated to the UAB Department of Chemistry and principal investigator of the Group of Nanochemistry and Supramolecular Materials of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), was awarded the Rei Jaume I Award in New Technologies.
The award recognises innovative research work and the successful translation of academic concepts into industrial applications that have driven considerable progress in the field of materials science. It also highlights Daniel Maspoch's outstanding career and his contribution to scientific and technological progress in Catalonia and the world.
The professor is internationally recognised for his pioneering work in the field of nanotechnology and molecular materials. His innovative research has been key to the development of the synthesis of reticular materials, comprising metal-organic frameworks (MOF), covalent organic frameworks (COF) and metal-organic polyhedra (MOP), which have brought about a paradigm shift in the field of materials science.
In parallel, the ICREA professor and co-founder of Ahead Therapeutics, a company located at the UAB Research Park, created new systems for targeted drug delivery. Together with his team, they have developed promising ways to treat autoimmune diseases.
Their work contributes to fostering research, innovation and technological development in the region, and to continuing to promote talent and excellence in these key areas for the progress of society.
