Darwin Hosts Free Events for Seniors Month in August

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin is inviting older Territorians to celebrate Seniors Month this August with a diverse program of free activities designed to support healthy ageing, lifelong learning and social connection.

Held annually across the Northern Territory and facilitated by the Northern Territory Government and COTA Australia, Seniors Month celebrates the valuable contributions older people make to families, workplaces and the wider community.

City of Darwin will host a range of free events as part of the Seniors Month program, including Zumba Gold and Toning, a movie screening and a dance session with The Australian Ballet.

Lord Mayor Peter Styles said the program was a great way for seniors to connect with others while trying something new.

"Seniors Month is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the important role older Territorians play in strengthening our community," Mr Styles said.

"We're proud to offer a fantastic range of free activities throughout August that encourage people to stay active, learn new skills, explore their interests and connect with others.

"Whether it's joining the Family History Research workshop, attending the Fun Bus with grandchildren or getting creative with an arts workshop, there's something for everyone to enjoy," he said.
