Draft Northern LAMPs open for public comment

Planning to improve the way we travel in Hobsons Bay is in its third and final phase with the draft Northern Local Area Movement Plans (LAMPs) going on public exhibition.

The Northern LAMPs aim to improve the way the community travels through the city on roads, public transport, the cycling network, and footpaths.

Strong community input has already driven the development of the LAMPs in three study areas: Spotswood and South Kingsville; Brooklyn and Altona North; and Newport and Williamstown North.

The plans have evolved throughout the consultation process, which commenced in November 2020 and has proceeded in three waves, including surveys sent to households and businesses in the affected areas, a series of drop-in sessions, workshops and online surveys through the Participate Hobsons Bay website.

Now Council is asking our community again if the refined LAMPs are in keeping with their vision for their neighbourhoods.

Some of the additions include:

  • improve pedestrian connections to Edwards Reserve
  • investigate the conversion of long-term parking spaces adjacent to Spotswood Station to pick-up/drop-off bays
  • provide a pedestrian crossing across Brunel Street in the vicinity of Vernon Street
  • investigate additional cyclist crossing points across Kororoit Creek Road
  • provide additional pedestrian crossing points of Mason Street

The final LAMPs will form part of a five-year framework to guide infrastructure development and support Council to advocate with state and federal governments for a safe and effective transport network.

Following the review of feedback from the two earlier rounds of consultation, the amended draft LAMPs are now available for public comment until midnight on Monday 20 September.
