East Gippsland Ag-Chat - talking 'over fence' online

Agriculture Victoria's East Gippsland recovery team are bringing together a virtual line up of advisers in two online panel sessions for fire and drought-affected farmers in the region.

Gippsland Agriculture Victoria team members and other invited guest speakers will be on the line for a weekly agricultural panel webinar/phone-in on Friday 15 and 22 May at 9.30am, where landholders can ask questions of the panel to assist with their farm recovery.

Agriculture Fire Recovery Manager for East Gippsland Keren Walker said the ag-chat sessions have been designed to provide an open line of communication for farmers where they can talk about the practical issues that they're all facing.

"Given that so many East Gippsland farmers have been impacted by both drought and fire, we saw this as a good opportunity to bring them together online where they can discuss common issues, share solutions and hear from a range of advisers.

"It's not the same as meeting at a field day or down the saleyards, but this is one way we can come together to discuss the issues that so many local farmers are facing in relation to drought and fire recovery.

"We've set up the sessions so that landholders can either join online or phone into the ag-chat sessions and we're also encouraging farmers to submit their questions and photos of issues ahead of each session."

Topics listed for discussion include pasture recovery and management, soil fertility and fertiliser use, animal health, nutrition and feed budgeting, erosion control, farmer water quality and supply.

Representatives from Agriculture Victoria, Rural Financial Counselling Service and Bushfire Recovery Victoria will be online to answer questions and provide information on the support packages that are available.
