Echo seize drugs and firearm parts in Doreen

Detectives from the Echo Taskforce have this afternoon charged a man and seized firearms parts, ammunition and what is believed to be a mobile clandestine laboratory as part of a targeted investigation into the manufacturing and trafficking of firearms linked to the Mongols OMCG.

With assistance from Banyule Crime Investigation Unit, Bomb Response Unit and the Arson and Explosives Squad, a warrant was executed at a residential address in Doreen shortly before 6am.

A 35-year-old Doreen man, believed to be an associate of the Mongols OMCG, was charged with a number of offences, including possess cannabis, cultivate cannabis, possess methylamphetamine, possess 1,4-Butanediol, possess ecstasy, possess cartridge ammunition, prohibited person possess firearm, possess prescribed precursor chemical, fail to answer bail and contravene bail conditions.

He will be presented to Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.

Police subsequently seized a small quantity of cannabis plants, a crystal substance, ammunition, multiple firearm parts which had been concealed inside a pipe, quantities of glassware located both inside the house and in a vehicle and precursor chemicals inside a toolbox.

The Clandestine Laboratory Squad also attended the address and located what police will allege to be a mobile clandestine laboratory.
