The Government's number one priority during COVID-19 has been protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of Tasmanians.
Our tourism and hospitality industry has been one of the hardest hit as a result of the necessary restrictions we have had to put in place and we must continue to support the sector over the next coming months.
I encourage Tasmanians to make the most of the new 'Make Yourself at Home' voucher incentive scheme which aims to drive intrastate visitation, by supporting and encouraging Tasmanians to get out and experience their home State.
The new voucher initiative needs Tasmanian travellers to get behind it – the more businesses, local government areas and regions embrace it, the more successful it will be.
I call on Tasmanians to make the most of this opportunity, and while they are out and about to support businesses by eating in local restaurants and cafes, having a drink at the local pub, and shopping at the local store.
This scheme builds on the success of the Welcome Back campaign and I expect it will see thousands of Tasmanians spend money on wining and dining and enjoying the products in the place they are visiting.
I know that when people travel, they spend in their local communities. This is why I believe this initiative has the potential to multiply our investment, and also ensure support for our hospitality businesses during the quieter times of the week.
In addition to accommodation providers, vouchers are available for Tasmanians to take part in experiences. This might be a local cruise, golfing experience, tour or wildlife adventure. This is an opportunity for Tasmanians, who might ordinarily have travelled interstate or overseas during this time, to instead experience our home grown attractions and experiences here in Tasmania.
Registrations will open from 9:00 am on Monday 7 September 2020.
