Families Week Event To Celebrate Community Connections

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin will celebrate National Families Week with a free community event for families and young children at Bicentennial Park on Wednesday 13 May 2026 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The event celebrates the 2026 National Families Week theme, 'Every Family, Everywhere', and will feature a range of fun and interactive activities for babies and children up to five years old.

City of Darwin Lord Mayor, Peter Styles, said the event is an opportunity for families, carers and young children to connect and celebrate the strength of community.

"National Families Week recognises the important role families play in creating strong, inclusive and connected communities," Mr Styles said.

"This free event provides a welcoming space for families to come together, enjoy quality time outdoors and participate in a range of engaging activities designed for young children," he said.

Activities on the day will include the Fun Bus, arts and crafts, a jumping castle, Lego Land, construction activities and a pop-up library, with light refreshments also provided.

A range of community organisations, including Catholic Care NT, Ronald McDonald House, Amber NT, Services Australia, Childbirth Education Association Darwin, Bamara and NT Hearing, will also be in attendance so that families can connect with local support services.

We welcome residents to also come along and enjoy City of Darwin's Jingili Water Festival and Families Week event being held on Saturday 16 May 2026 at Jingili Water Gardens.

National Families Week runs from 11 to 17 May 2026 and is celebrated annually across Australia to acknowledge the vital role families play in Australian society.
