The City of Fremantle will permanently close the Point Street carpark from 13 April 2026 to enable construction of new Purpose‑Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) in the city's East End.
The City‑operated carpark will be demolished to make way for a contemporary student housing project, which will deliver high‑quality accommodation with modern amenities and provide students with direct access to the University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle Station, and nearby public open space.
City of Fremantle Chief Executive Officer Glen Dougall said the development, delivered by Sirona Urban, is a significant step in strengthening Fremantle's residential population and supporting a more vibrant and connected inner city.
"This purpose‑built student housing is an important development that will deliver new, high‑quality and affordable spaces for students to live and study in Fremantle," Dougall said.
"It will help stimulate local economic growth and foster more socially connected and active inner‑city communities."
Alternative parking options close to Point Street include the Ellen Street, Fremantle Oval, and Parry Street carparks.
