The Crisafulli Government is delivering a legacy for community clubs that will last beyond the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games after a decade of under investment in Queensland clubs by the former Labor government.
Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander congratulated the club on getting the upgrades underway.
"We are delivering a Games for all of Queensland and clubs like Wellington Point Bowls are the backbone of the community, connecting people and providing an invaluable opportunity for them to be active," Minister Mander said.
"We want Queensland to be the home of Australian sport and we know, the better the facilities, the more people will be inspired to get out on the greens and participate.
"Which is why we made a commitment before the last election to back Queensland clubs so they could have a lasting legacy beyond the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
Helping to turn the first sod on the works, Member for Oodgeroo Amanda Stoker said the upgraded facilities would ensure a bright future for the club and for the community.
"As our community continues to grow, the Wellington Point Bowls Club has done a fantastic job in encouraging more of us to get out, be active and take part in sport," Ms Stoker said.
"The new facilities will provide an even more welcoming environment with greater protection from the sun, allowing more community members of all ages to participate and take their place as 'Wello Wildcats'.
"We promised before the State Election to help the club make these upgrades a reality, and I'm looking forward to putting them to good use myself when they are completed."
Wellington Bowls Club President Daryl Denman said the new facilities would help the club expand and better serve the community.
"Lawn bowls is one of the most inclusive sports in our community, and these improvements will help us attract more members and provide a better and more comfortable experience under the Queensland sun," Mr Denman said.
"This is a really exciting day for everyone at our club and we are incredibly grateful to the Queensland Government for its support through the Games On! program and the Redlands Sporting Club."
