Guns seized after Docklands firearms incident

Armed Crime Squad detectives have arrested a man and seized a number of firearms following a search warrant in a Docklands apartment building this morning.

The investigation commenced after a firearm was allegedly discharged on 1 June.

Police were called to a LaTrobe Street apartment building in the Melbourne CBD after a projectile pierced a window and came to rest in an upper floor apartment about 8.45pm.

Luckily no one was injured as a result of the incident.

The incident was quickly linked to an earlier incident in March, where a vehicle parked in a Docklands car park was located with what appeared to a bullet hole.

Detectives executed a search warrant at an apartment building on Harbour Esplanade this morning and arrested a 28-year-old Docklands man at the scene.

Three firearms were subsequently seized from the residence along with ammunition, cash and cannabis.

The Docklands man has been charged with possess traffickable quantity of firearms, two counts of use category B firearm, reckless conduct endanger life, two counts of possess general category handgun, criminal damage and traffick cannabis.

He will appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court this evening.
