The Information and Electronics Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), in conjunction with the China Information and Electronics Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy Research Center, released the "AI Technologies for the Next Generation of Information Engineering Science and Technology" report (Report) on 31 July simultaneously in Beijing and Hong Kong.

The press conference in Hong Kong, broadcast live in parallel with the event in Beijing, was held at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, and Professor Max Shen, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) of HKU, attended the event with over 100 academics and students.

The press conference was hosted by Academician Aiguo Fei, Director of the Information and Electronics Engineering Division of the CAE. Xiaohong Li, President of CAE, delivered a speech, and Academician Aiguo Fei, announced the Report whereas Academician Shaohua Yu introduced the progress made in research. Professor Max Shen delivered a speech on behalf of the University.

The President of the CAE, Xiaohong Li, stated that through the release of the Report, they aim to ensure that the development of artificial intelligence aligns with national strategic needs. This initiative seeks to promote the deep integration of artificial intelligence with traditional industries, achieving "incremental innovation" in existing industries and "breakthroughs" in emerging and future industries. At the same time, the academy aims to leverage the collective intelligence of its members to provide specialized, constructive, and practical opinions and suggestions, thus supporting scientific decision-making in various sectors.

Academician Aiguo Fei, Director of the Information and Electronics Engineering Division of the CAE, introduced the Report which includes a "List of Emerging Industry and Future Industry Technologies Related to AI" (163 entries), a "List of Industry Upgrade and Cross-Disciplinary Technologies Related to AI" (122 entries), and a "List of Predicted AI Hot Technologies" (12 entries). The Report has extensively gathered opinions from experts and the public, based on 58 blue books already published by the division, input from over 300 experts from 13 subfield groups, and results from more than 20 strategic consulting projects undertaken by the CAE.

Professor Max Shen remarked, "CAE, as a top national think tank and the highest honorary and advisory academic institution in the field of engineering and technology, has jointly released the Report with HKU in both Beijing and Hong Kong, which is of great significance. HKU is honoured to participate in this critical work. As the oldest international comprehensive research university in Hong Kong, we actively embrace the transformation brought by artificial intelligence, continuously promoting the deep integration of engineering, medicine, science, social sciences, and other disciplines with artificial intelligence, establishing a diverse and interdisciplinary innovation platform. HKU will further enhance its role as a bridge connecting the development of technology in the mainland and the international community, actively collaborating with the CAE in various aspects, including technological innovation, talent cultivation, industry-academia-research integration, and the technology transfer of scientific achievements, to promote and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the mainland and globally, seeking more technological collaborations and achieving greater breakthroughs in artificial intelligence technology and applications."
