Homes Tasmania Board announced to deliver more homes, faster

Members,

Providing more homes, faster for Tasmanians is at the core of the Tasmanian Government's housing agenda.

We know many Tasmanians are still struggling to find appropriate and affordable housing and we need to do better.

That's why The Tasmanian Government established Homes Tasmania, with a dedicated focus on housing and significant powers to leverage its $3.5 billion asset base to build more homes for Tasmanians, faster.

Today, I'm pleased to announce the inaugural Board for Homes Tasmania, which will commence on 1 December 2022.

The Board will be chaired by Michele Adair who is highly respected and experienced in the housing and homelessness space across Australia. Ms Adair brings strong governance and sectoral experience and I know will lead a strong team in delivering the Government's housing commitments.

Ms Adair will be supported by five non-executive Directors in:

  • Mr Timothy Gourlay
  • Mr Daryl Lamb
  • Mr Robert Pradolin
  • Ms Alice Spizzo
  • Ms Ellen Witte

These Directors will bring a good balance of local Tasmanian and interstate perspectives. They have strong skills in governance, property development, data analytics, legal, planning, social and affordable housing, homelessness and housing support services.

This is a Board that will provide leadership that understands the various challenges, opportunities and differences across our State.

I am confident that the collective skills and experience of the Directors will drive innovation and deliver homes faster for Tasmanians while also providing housing and homelessness services for those most in need.

The Board will be tasked with delivering the Government's commitment for 10,000 social and affordable homes by 2032 and improving housing outcomes for Tasmanians.

One of its first tasks will be finalising the 20-Year Housing Strategy for Tasmania which will guide the types of homes we build, when and where we build them.
