Today marks one year since the Albanese Government's landmark $3.9 billion National Access to Justice Partnership 2025-2030 (NAJP) commenced.
In its first 6 months (July-December 2025), the NAJP has delivered close to 400,000 legal services, reached almost 200,000 clients nationwide and helped more Australians access the legal support they need. These figures reflect both the ongoing demand for legal assistance and the essential role the sector plays in supporting those experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, domestic and family violence.
The NAJP is strengthening responses to family and domestic violence by investing in specialist service delivery models such as family advocacy support services, domestic violence units and health justice partnerships. These services provide holistic, integrated support that not only address legal issues but also the broader social, safety and wellbeing needs of those affected.
The NAJP represents the Government's largest investment in legal assistance that provides frontline services stable funding to support those most in need. Importantly, the NAJP also enables the sector to assist people in regional and remote communities, and other Australians who face barriers in accessing justice.
The Government is investing an additional $3.5 million in the legal assistance sector to position it for the future, including targeted AI and data capability uplift and a community legal centre AI pilot. This funding will build the capability of legal assistance service providers, support providers to collect and report data to inform evidence-based decisions and tell the story of how they support people experiencing disadvantage.
