Works are underway at Kilmore East Station with a $1 million program of improvement projects as part of the Victorian Government's ongoing economic response to coronavirus (COVID-19).
Minister for Public Transport Ben Carrollsaid the first stage of the significant program of works has begun at Kilmore East Station. The project is part of the government's $328.4 million investment in critical public transport and roads maintenance and upgrades.
Kilmore East is one of 16 key stations to receive a share in a $24 million package to support jobs and deliver improved facilities for passengers along the north-east corridor.
The works, totaling more than $988,000, will be rolled out in stages, and continue into 2021.
The initial works will see the façade of the station receive a fresh coat of paint and landscaping in the station carpark precinct will be improved to make the precinct more inviting for passengers. Upgrades will be made to the existing car park for passengers with accessibility needs to help improve access to and from the station.
The station's lighting is set to be upgraded at the start of next year and planning is underway for an upgraded shelter, improved public announcement system on the station platform, and refurbished bathroom amenities. This package of works will be rolled out later in 2021 once detailed design work is completed.
Crews will continue to follow strict protocols as set out by the Department of Health and Human Services on work sites to protect the health and safety of workers and the community during the works.
