Launceston Airport Unveils New Departure Gate

The visitor experience at the Launceston Airport will soar to new heights today with the beginning of works on a new departure gate.

This is supported in part by a $5.15 million grant from the Tasmanian Government.

Minister Jo Palmer was onsite today to see works at the new gate begin at the Launceston Airport today.

"Investing in our visitor economy is incredibly important here in Tasmania," Minister Palmer said.

"The first thing that most people see when they visit our beautiful island are our airports.

"We all know that first impressions count, and we want to leave a lasting, positive impression for everyone coming in and out of Tassie."

Northern Tasmania experienced record visitation in the year to December, with 778,300 visitors getting around the region.

"This is an almost 9 per cent increase on the previous year, confirming that Northern Tasmania is a must-visit destination for tourists," Minister Palmer said.

"We are delivering for Tasmania by investing in our tourism industry and supporting the one in six Tasmanians who work in our visitor economy.

"I want to congratulate the team at Launceston Airport for this great project and doing their bit to ensure we're welcoming people into our state with open arms."
