Local artists and creative communities get funding boost

Whittlesea Council is pleased to announce another round of the recently introduced Whittlesea Creative Communities Fund is opening soon.

This grant was originally designed to provide some financial support to artists and creative groups who are economically affected long-term by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local artist Meg De Young received funding in a previous round to create a Whittlesea Community Garden Mural.

"This grant has enabled me as an artist to keep the connections to the community through Covid restrictions," Meg said.

"It has given me the chance of producing work that will directly benefit members of the community that not only are involved with Whittlesea Community Garden but engage with the garden space itself.

"Whether that be on walks or taking their family there for lunch, it has given me the opportunity to produce something for everybody to enjoy."

This third round will continue to build on the successes of previous rounds in developing the capacity of local artists and putting City of Whittlesea on the creative map.

This grant is open to those working in local creative sectors including artists, musicians, writers, performers, producers, community artists, not-for-profit arts organisations and community/cultural groups to create and present work.

The City of Whittlesea understands that artists across the municipality are experiencing financial difficulty so these grants will provide funding of up to $2000.

Council also understand that artists can provide community connection and creativity to survive now and beyond this period positively.

The arts are a proven and effective vehicle known to strengthen community connection, emotional wellbeing and recovery.
