Local readers up for challenge

Local children have read their way through the school holidays, as part of the annual Summer Reading Challenge.

115 young students took part in this year's challenge, which encourages students to read for a minimum of 15 minutes per day to help keep their minds active and maintain their reading ability over the long break from school.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said she was very proud to hear those 115 local young readers were excited to be involved in the initiative.

"There are many benefits to reading, so keeping the mind healthy and sharp over the school holidays by reading for just 15 minutes a day sounds like the perfect option!" Cr Fedeli said.

"2021 was a very stressful year, particularly for parents who were home-schooling throughout the lockdown period. This program was the perfect way to minimise stress on parents and provide a fun option to keeping their children engaged.

"I encourage individuals of all ages to take on the challenge of reading for 15 minutes every day, I believe it can truly help keep your mind young.

"Membership to all of our Library locations is free to both residents and people who live outside the Camden area."
