Man Charged After Truck Theft, Crash in Kensington

A man has been charged after allegedly stealing and crashing a truck in Sydney's Eastern Beaches.

About 6.20pm yesterday (Saturday 26 April 2025), police were called to Day Avenue, Kensington, following reports a truck had been stolen before it hit two parked vehicles and rolled to its side.

Prior to the arrival of police, the driver had allegedly tried to walk away from the scene but was followed and stopped by members of the public.

Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command arrested the driver – a 32-year-old man – before he was subjected to a roadside breath test and drug test, with both returning positive results.

After his arrest, the man allegedly kicked a police officer twice in the chest.

He was taken to Maroubra Police Station where he underwent secondary testing, and was charged with seven offences:

  • Take and drive conveyance,
  • Drive with low range PCA,
  • Fail to exchange particulars after a crash – two counts,
  • Never licensed person drive on road,
  • Assault police officer in execution of duty, and
  • Breach of bail conditions

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 27 April 2025).
