Man in court over Chester Hill belt assault

Detectives have charged a man after a woman was allegedly assaulted with a belt in Sydney's south-west earlier this week.

The 27-year-old woman was walking home from Chester Hill Railway Station about 6.15pm on Thursday (13 February 2020), when a man allegedly put a belt around her neck and pulled it towards him.

The woman turned around and confronted the man who ran away.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command were alerted and following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 23-year-old man at a home in Bent Street, Chester Hill, about 7.45pm yesterday (Saturday 15 February 2020).

The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he has been charged with

• Attempt take person intent commit serious indictable offence

• Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm

• Sexually touch another person without consent

• Common assault.

The man has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 16 February 2020).
