  • Cook Labor Government supporting regional jobs and economic opportunities

Five Mid West projects will share in more than $647,000 in funding to help build regional business resilience and economic diversity under Round 8 of the Cook Labor Government's Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants program.

The RED Grants program has invested $60.85 million over 11 years toward locally driven projects to stimulate economic growth in regional Western Australia.

The announcement highlights a diverse mix of initiatives across the Mid West, supporting tourism, childcare, mining services and agribusiness.

The Shire of Murchison has been awarded $250,000 for the redevelopment of the Murchison Oasis Roadhouse, a key focal point for visitors to the region.

The project will strengthen tourism infrastructure and enhance visitor services, driving increased visitation and expenditure while supporting small business opportunities including Wajarri arts, tours and local services.

The Shire of Morawa will receive $200,000 to progress the Morawa Early Childhood Education and Family Centre.

The project will help to deliver a co-located childcare and family services hub, improving access to early childhood education and care, supporting workforce participation and enhancing community wellbeing.

TIAM Solutions has been awarded $150,000 to establish a new mining equipment maintenance and repair facility in Meekatharra.

The project will enable local servicing of mining equipment, reducing reliance on Perth-based operations, minimising downtime for operators and creating up to eight new jobs and two apprenticeships.

Geraldton-based Feral Hive Honey will receive $28,500 to expand its beekeeping operations, including honey processing, hive manufacturing, and pollinator-friendly planting.

The project will increase production capacity, support local agribusiness supply chains and enable value-adding opportunities within the region.

An $18,547 grant has been awarded to 30 Knots Spirits to upgrade distillery equipment and improve production efficiency.

The project will support business sustainability, increase output and consistency.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:

"The Regional Economic Development Grants program continues to empower regional communities to drive their own economic future.

"These investments in the Mid West will strengthen local industries, support job creation and improve access to essential services like childcare and tourism infrastructure.

"By supporting locally led projects, the Cook Labor Government is helping to build more resilient and diverse regional economies that can thrive into the future."

As stated by Mid West Minister Jackie Jarvis:

"These projects demonstrate the strength, innovation and ambition of Mid West communities.

"From improving access to early childhood education in Morawa to boosting tourism in Murchison and supporting business development in Geraldton and Meekatharra, this Cook Labor Government funding is delivering real benefits across the region.

"I look forward to seeing these projects come to life and continue contributing to vibrant, sustainable Mid West communities."
