Twenty five researchers from across Monash have been awarded $12.9 million in Australian Research Council (ARC) Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) grants, with a total of 25 awards.
The ARC's DECRA program supports early career researchers to address critical knowledge gaps and deliver solutions addressing economic, environmental, social, and cultural challenges.
Monash leads the nation and Group of Eight universities, with 12.5 per cent of the 200 projects awarded funding in this latest round of DECRA awards, continuing a year-on-year trend of improved results for Monash in DECRA funding.
A total of five projects have been awarded from each of the faculties of Arts, Engineering and Science, with four each from the faculties of Information Technology and Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. A further two awards have also been won by the faculty of Business and Economics.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) and Senior Vice-President, Professor Robyn Ward AM, said the results shine a light on the University's next generation of research leaders.
"I'm thrilled to see our early career researchers achieving such outstanding success, with 25 DECRA grants awarded this year - the most we've received over the last five years. It's wonderful to see the diversity of disciplines recognised, from Arts and Business to Engineering, Science, IT, and Medicine – demonstrating the breadth and strength of Monash research," Professor Ward said.
"Supporting early career researchers lays the foundation for tomorrow's research impact. These grants will enable them to tackle important economic, social, environmental, and cultural challenges both in Australia and globally."
