Monash University, recognised among the world's top-50 universities, will be one of the leading global universities to host a Blue Zone pavilion at 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, UAE, from 30 November to 12 December.
Monash University is dedicated to addressing the pressing global challenge of climate change and has also made it a core focus as reflected in the Impact 2030 strategy. With an extensive international presence spanning Australia, Asia Pacific, Europe, India and China, Monash has made significant strides in climate change education and research, fostering impactful climate action partnerships across the Indo Pacific region.
As an official 'Observer Organisation' of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and a consistent attendee since 2016, Monash University will mark an historic milestone as the first Australian university to host a Pavilion within the prestigious UNFCCC managed Blue Zone at COP28.
The pavilion will serve as a collaborative space for Monash's experts, scholars and students, alongside partners from the Asia Pacific and beyond, to converge, deliberate and advance climate action solutions.
Monash's COP28 delegation will include both staff and students who will share their climate action expertise and knowledge whilst strengthening partnerships across the key themes: of Just energy transitions, Climate and health, Antarctica and oceans, Indigenous wisdom, and Education and youth.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Research), and Senior Vice-President Professor Rebekah Brown will lead the University's delegation at COP28 with a focus on strengthening international cooperation and collaboration among governments, industry, communities, and NGOs and universities to tackle climate change.

Our Pavilion will serve as a nexus for our scientific community, scholars, students, and partners to showcase their expertise, fostering collaboration with global policymakers and change makers in our collective pursuit of a sustainable and just world for all," Professor Brown said.
COP28 is the largest global forum addressing climate change and is anticipated to gather representatives from 198 countries and an estimated 75,000 participants. This pivotal event will conduct a global stock-take, marking the first since the landmark Paris Agreement in 2015.
