Motorists over Moonie River with new bridge

It's out with the Old Bullamon, and in with the new $7 million Moonie River bridge near Thallon.

The first pile is now in place for the Palaszczuk Government's project which will see the single-lane Old Bullamon bridge with a new two-lane structure to improve traffic flow, safety and lines of sight.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the project would generate 25 jobs.

"This is about improving safety for locals and truckies who use this stretch of road every day, but also about providing an injection for the local economy with jobs," Mr Bailey said.

It's the final project in a $14 million package of works to improve Noondoo-Thallon Road, and forms part of the Palaszczuk Government's $14.5 billion road and transport budget for regional Queensland, creating 13,00 jobs.

The new bridge is expected to open mid-next year, with the site to be closed over Christmas and into the New Year, from December 20 to January 13.

Reduced speed limits and signs will be in place while the approaches are being built, to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists.

Motorists should observe all signs when driving through the road works.
