University of Adelaide Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science graduate Linh Co Bui has been awarded a prestigious 2026 General Sir John Monash Scholarship.
Linh graduated from the University in July 2025 and will start his Masters of Science in Robotics at Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania, in August 2026.
He received a call from the scholarship manager following his interview.
"I sat down, pen and paper in hand, ready to jot down the feedback from my interview and as I began to transcribe the scholarship manager's words verbatim, I suddenly realised, upon reading the word 'congratulations', that I had been awarded the scholarship," says Linh.
"I suddenly realised that all the hard work, chasing dreams and sometimes taking risks was worth it.
"It also speaks to the systems and opportunities that made this possible: the kind that can propel someone like me, an Adelaidean and former international student, to now study abroad at one of the world's top robotics programs."
Linh's research focuses on explainable robotic cognition which allows them to operate effectively in complex, human-aligned environments.
"For now, I'll be taking tests, writing applications and reaching out to potential professors," he said.
"Then it's tackling the big research problems with robots, how to make them safer, more useful, and more aligned with our ideals.
"Eventually, I intend to make a difference back in Australia by growing our robotics ecosystem and advancing the adoption rate of high-technology solutions."
