The Cook Labor Government has launched an expression of interest (EOI) to find an operator for a new Commercialisation Hub which will accelerate the State's research translation and commercialisation activities.
The Commercialisation Hub will provide benefits to entrepreneurs and businesses seeking to scale up their operations. It will seek to:
- improve intellectual property (IP) management and commercialisation outcomes;
- increase the number of investor ready businesses and subsequent investment into WA scale-ups; and
- increase the capitalisation of Western Australian scale-ups (both for individual businesses and for the ecosystem as a whole).
This new initiative marks a significant milestone in the Cook Labor Government's plan to unlock the full potential of WA based research and innovation, supporting entrepreneurs and businesses navigate the complex road to commercialisation.
The Hub will provide expert advice to support the transformation of innovative ideas into market-ready products, as well as support already successful innovators to scale up their business operations, offering significant economic and developmental benefits.
Thanks to the $40 million New Industries and Innovation Fund (NIIF) the Commercialisation Hub will receive $2 million in funding over the next four years to ensure its operations.
The NIIF supports the commercialisation of WA based innovation and is strengthening the local innovation ecosystem, providing jobs and advancing the knowledge economy.
