New Councillors Hit Chamber Running

First full meeting of the new Albury City Council held.

In the first full meeting since the December 2021 Local Government Election, the new Albury City Council met last evening, marking a new leadership era for the Albury community.

The new Council is led by Mayor Kylie King and Deputy Mayor Steve Bowen, and is made up of 4 new, 3 returning, and 2 former Councillors.

Mayor Kylie King noted the great mix of skills and experience within the Councillor group, and the great teamwork that had already been established.

"Our new team have come together with enthusiasm and passion, a commitment to listening to our community, and will focus on making informed decisions that deliver strong outcomes for our growing region," said Cr King.

"This is my first experience as a Councillor, and I'd really like to thank my colleagues for the faith they have shown in me by electing me Mayor."

Deputy Mayor Steve Bowen said that through Councillors and Council officers working together we will continue to move our region forward and make it an even better place to live, work, play, invest and visit.

"It's about focussing on the things that matter, engaging with our community, taking advantage of the beautiful region we live in, and advocating for positive change," said Cr Bowen.

In a packed Council meeting agenda there were two Notices of Motion tabled. The first was tabled by Cr Jessica Kellahan, who moved that Council approves the temporary display of the Progress Pride Flag in the Council Chamber during June, and other Council meetings on or near national days/periods of celebration.

Cr Ashley Edwards tabled the second motion, seeking a report on shade protection over Council-owned play spaces, the costs of installing shade sails and future plantings of shade trees.

Both these notices of motion were endorsed by Council.

"It is extremely pleasing to see two of our new Councillor's put forward notices of motion, demonstrating that they have really hit the ground running, and have taken a leadership approach," added Mayor King.

"I am really looking forward to our new Councillor group delivering great outcomes for our community."

Albury City Council meetings take place on the second and fourth Monday of each month commencing at 6pm. Meetings are live-streamed on Council's website alburycity.nsw.gov.au/council/about-council/live-stream.
