New managers for Cotters Markets announced

Townsville City Council has selected local company Pop Up Food Trucks Townsville Events as the new managers for Cotters Markets.

Deputy Mayor and Planning and Development Committee chair, Cr Les Walker, said the company would take over management of the well-known weekly event from Sunday 2 February.

"Pop Up Food Trucks Townsville Events (PUFT) has a track record of curating events that create an experience for consumers here in Townsville," Cr Walker said.

"They are focused on a partnership approach to the running of the markets, which is great news for council as well as stallholders.

"The market will continue to offer a wide variety of goods for sale from art and crafts and fresh local produce through to plants and flowers.

"It will also offer a combination of quality breakfast and brunch offerings as well as live music and entertainment using local buskers, theatre performers and kids' entertainment."

Cr Walker said he was confident the much-loved Cotters Markets will remain a destination of choice for the community on Sunday mornings.

"The markets provide an important weekly boost to the local economy, creating jobs and giving food producers and artisans a place to showcase their wares and grow their business," he said.

"Council is committed to working with PUFT to ensure Cotters Markets continues to grow its offering to the public and remains popular with the community."

Council's search for new management for Cotters Markets started in October after the current manager advised of the desire to withdraw from the agreement they had with Council to manage the weekly event.

Expressions of interest to manage the market were called, with three submissions received.
