New Premier Event Destination On Way For Sydney's West

NSW Gov

The Minns Labor Government has approved a new state-of-the-art $50 million community and events centre at Fairfield that's set to become a premier destination for events in Sydney's west.

With the go ahead to host entertainment events on up to 180 days each year for audiences of up to 3,000 people, the new centre at Fairfield Showground will support the local night‑time economy and give the community more opportunities to come together for sport, events and live entertainment.

The proposed development comprises a multi-purpose facility featuring:

  • indoor and outdoor stages
  • a covered forecourt
  • a large hall that can accommodate:
  • two indoor sporting courts
  • a single indoor sporting court with seating for up to 1000 people
  • theatre mode with a seating capacity for up to 3,000 people
  • other functions such as banquets and conventions.

The centre will cater for a wide range of activities, from indoor sports including basketball, futsal, volleyball, gymnastics and hockey to major events such as trade shows, conferences and performances.

The NSW Government have invested $28 million while Fairfield City Council are providing more than $22 million to deliver the new events centre.

The project which will create up to 241 construction jobs and 6 ongoing operational roles is expected to begin construction to start in January 2027 and by complete by August 2028.

It marks the continued transformation of the showground which has long been home to markets, festivals, and community events.

This is another example of the Minns Labor Government investing to build better communities where people want to live, work and play.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car said:

"This investment is about unlocking the full potential of Fairfield Showground and transforming it into a vibrant destination for Western Sydney.

"For too long, communities in Western Sydney have not have the same level of access to high-quality facilities as the rest of the city, and this project is about turning that around.

"This new centre will give the local community a place where sport, culture and other major events can thrive now and into the future."

Minister for Planning and Public Places Paul Scully said:

"This approval clears the way for the final stage of the Fairfield Showground redevelopment and brings an important community project one step closer to reality.

"We want people to love living locally, and this new Community and Events Centre gives Western Sydney locals a place to attend events, play sport, and watch live performances and music on their doorstep."

Member for Prospect Dr Hugh McDermott said:

"This is an exciting milestone in the ongoing re-development of the Fairfield Showground which brings the community one step closer to enjoying a new state of the art event centre.

"Once complete the new facility will be able to host everything from sport to music, theatre, conferences and more."

Member for Fairfield David Saliba said:

"This new venue will give the people of Fairfield a place right on their doorstep to gather for sport, events and live entertainment.

"Infrastructure like is vital as our community grows because it creates a community hub that can bring people together."
