Bayside Council is looking at options to create a new public park in Arncliffe to improve recreation facilities for the growing population expected in the area.
Arncliffe Central, a major housing development at 26-42 Eden Street, is well advanced with over 800 new apartments expected to be completed by 2027.
A block of land bounded by Arncliffe St, Burrows St and Eden St, Arncliffe has been preserved from development as part of the construction of the M5East. It is still owned by Transport for NSW and currently fenced off, preventing any use by the public.
The block includes several large established trees which could provide a shady park-like environment for residents in that precinct of Arncliffe.
The previous State Government had committed to dedicating this land to Council to enhance access to open space in the area.
The Mayor has written several letters seeking confirmation of the current Government's intention to fulfill that commitment but has not yet received a definitive response.
Council is now seeking a meeting with the Minister for Roads, Jenny Aitchison and the Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully (and other relevant Ministers) to gain their assistance in transferring this land to Council.
