Two local Nillumbik businesses have been recognised in this year's Northern Business Achievement Awards (NBAA).
Congratulations to Blue Pear Pantry, who won the Best Start-up or Microbusiness Award, and Ben Hutchinson Landscapes, who won the Sustainability Award.
The awards, highlighting business excellence in Melbourne's north, were presented at an online grand finale on Thursday 3 December.
Blue Pear Pantry, based in North Warrandyte, produces handcrafted pastries for foodservice, wholesale/retail and direct online sales. All ingredients are sourced locally and direct from farmers wherever possible.
Ben Hutchinson Landscapes, based in Eltham, specialises in Australian native landscape design. Sustainability is at the heart of the business, with a focus on maximising available rainwater, regionally and sustainably sourced materials wherever possible and the use of indigenous and Australian native plants.
Mayor Peter Perkins congratulated Nillumbik's two winners.
"It's been a really tough year for everyone, but businesses such as Blue Pear Pantry and Ben Hutchinson Landscapes highlight the strength, resilience and innovation of our business community to get through these challenges," Cr Perkins said.
"I congratulate you on your achievements and urge the Nillumbik community to continue to support our fantastic local businesses."
Council, which nominated both businesses for the awards, will celebrate the winners at the first Council Meeting on Tuesday 15 December.
Nominees for the 2021 awards will be sought next year.
