Queenslanders from diverse backgrounds and locations around the state are encouraged to nominate to be on the Multicultural Queensland Advisory Council.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs Leanne Linard said she was looking for individuals who are committed, connected, and understand the issues impacting people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds in Queensland.
"The Multicultural Queensland Advisory Council provides advice to me on opportunities and barriers facing people from CALD backgrounds. Their focus is ensuring all Queenslanders are supported to contribute, thrive, and belong," Ms Linard said.
"If you are committed to a harmonious Queensland, have strong community connections, and have ideas about addressing barriers to social and economic participation for people from CALD backgrounds, then I want to hear from you.
"Nominate now and share your expertise, unique experiences and insights and help create a more united and inclusive Queensland."
Ms Linard thanked departing council members for their dedication to their role.
"I am grateful to each council member for the insights they provided me during the past three years," she said.
"Each member has helped to break down barriers and create more opportunities for people from CALD backgrounds in Queensland.
"I look forward to continuing this work with Queenslanders who are just as passionate about ensuring our communities are places where people of all cultures, languages and faiths, feel valued and thrive."
Nominations open this week and close at 5pm Monday 11 April 2022. The new members of the Multicultural Advisory Council term will run for three years starting 1 August 2022
Regional and rural members will not be out of pocket when it comes to travelling to meetings with some meetings taking place in regional areas across Queensland.
The Multicultural Queensland Advisory Council was established in 2016 and has undertaken a broad range of work. This includes consultation with young people about their attitudes towards multiculturalism, the development of a National Anti-Racism Framework, meetings with local Councils in regional areas and providing advice to inquiries including the Legal Affairs and Safety Committee's inquiry into serious vilification and hate crimes.
